The Ancient Silk Route is the hilly path from the antiquity that used to connect Lhasa in Tibet via Jelep La Pass to India and further to the western world. Much of this territory is now a part of East Sikkim and West Bengal, India. It is the rare confluence of natural beauty and the history of human civilization.
Tread through the world’s first international passage, which still holds its historical significances. The ancient Silk Route helped to integrate the ancient Chinese, Indian, Persian, Arabian, Greek and Roman cultures and promoted the exchange of the Western and Oriental civilizations. Half of the Silk Road, which winds along Xi’an to the east bank of the Mediterranean, is vastly located in Xinjiang province of China. It is a place, where the ancient Western and Oriental cultures mingled and witnessed interactions of many momentous characters, who visited in this historic trail. A plethora of relics and remnants of rare cultural and interests from the centuries of the ancient days, still linger around Xinjiang.
To take the trail, which will roughly take a stint of a week, you need to reach Bagdogra or NJP Station, and head for Reshi. While, passing Reshi, its scenic beauty will capture you in its embargo, where the time stood still; amidst the tweeting of varied birds and the Mother Nature herself. Blow your mind in the beauty of Reshi River, while you will hike to Pedong. Further, you can drive to the ancient Silk Route and visit Jelepla Pass, Kupup and Memencho Lake, before you reach Zuluk. As you will move to Gnathang, further, proceed to Sillery. Sillery will mesmerize your mind with its natural beauty, as you trek to Ramitey. Before you reach Ramitey, enjoy the sightseeing on the way like Tinchuley point, Cross Hill, Bhutan Monastery, Bhutan Gompha, Silence Valley, and Rikisum. As you complete the partial circuit, of the mighty Silk Route that extends from India to Persia and beyond, drive down to Siliguri and reach Bagdogra Airport or NJP Railway Station for your return or onward journey.
